Phyllis is an elderly woman with memories of her party frock, the bus ride to school and being called “the little flower girl”. Grace is a little girl who lives next door. Most days her mum gives her something to take to Phyllis- a cake, some stew, a tub of ice cream. One time, Grace even makes her very own biscuits to take round. Phyllis has dementia. Grace knows that she is confused about names and dates but it makes no odds to her. And, when Phyllis goes to a home, Grace’s dad still takes her to visit every Saturday. “Sometimes she thought Grace was her daughter. Sometimes she thought Grace was her granddaughter. Grace didn’t mind. Phyllis always liked Grace whoever she thought he was”.
A story of best friends, sharing memories, cakes and tubs of ice cream across two generation’s divide. Starring a delightful, non-judgemental, sunshiny child and a vulnerable adult who feels safe and happy in her company. ‘A lovely book which shows the strength of friendship in the moment’ (June, Disability Activist, Letterbox Library reviewer). Age 4-7, Hardback 30pp
